NS 6740

A weak partial agonist of α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) that strongly desensitizes the activity of this ion channel. Functions by converting the mode of α7 signaling to a channel-independent mode, causing reduced synapses.  Suppresses cognitive functions and inhibits α7 activators that enhance cognition. Elicits anti-inflammatory effects, by reducing LPS-mediated TNFα release.
