Chitoses

Chitoses or chitooligosaccharides are derived from chitosans, as a result of chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis. These compounds have various biological effects and have been applied in medicine, cosmetics, food and agriculture. Chitoses have been attributed to the following biological activities: antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, immunostimulatory, aiding wound healing and promoting tissue regeneration. These compounds also have uses as prebiotics, food additives, preservatives and drug carriers.
